Type instead of speaking when the transcript is wrong

Separate a speech-recognition error from a translation error and use typed input for a clearer source phrase.

Read the source before the translation

If the translated reply looks strange, inspect the source phrase first. Speech recognition may have recorded a different word, name or number from the one you said. For example, a wrong appointment time in the source needs correction there; repeatedly translating the same wrong text will not repair the original information.

Finish listening before editing

DuoTalk’s text composer is disabled while it is listening or translating. Finish the current activity before trying to change the source. If a control is unavailable, check that state rather than tapping repeatedly. This guide describes the implemented workflow and does not announce a release date or public availability.

Type one complete, short phrase

Use the source text field to type the intended phrase. Include enough context to identify the subject and action, without adding a long history. Write names and numbers carefully. For example, state that the appointment is tomorrow at a specific time instead of using only “then” or “there.” Confirm the source language displayed above the composer.

Translate the checked text

Read the typed source once, then use the translation action. Typing removes the need to recognise your spoken words for this phrase; it does not guarantee a correct translation. Keep the person you are speaking with involved and check whether the result expresses the intended request, statement or negation.

When a translation seems wrong, check before replying

Confirm details through another form

For a date, address or amount, show the written detail and ask the other person to confirm it. If the meaning remains uncertain, shorten the phrase or ask for a simpler reply. Do not treat a fluent sentence as proof that every detail is correct. For consequential medical or legal decisions, use appropriate qualified help.

Choosing a conversation translator: privacy questions and honest limits

Return to speech only when useful

After resolving the phrase, choose whether speech or typing is easier in that setting. A noisy room or an unfamiliar name may make typing preferable for the next detail too. Speaking louder is not a general correction method. The workflow is not an independent accuracy test or a certified interpreting service.

Questions

Does typing guarantee a correct translation?

No. It avoids speech recognition for that source phrase, but the translation still needs checking.

Why can I not edit the phrase right now?

The composer is disabled while DuoTalk is listening or translating. Finish that activity before editing.
