Both languages, side by side
The original phrase and its translation stay visible together, so each person can follow the exchange without passing the phone back and forth.

What you can do
Choose two languages, hold to speak or type a phrase, and keep both sides of the exchange in view. DuoTalk is a conversation translator in development for iPhone, designed for iPhone Duo.
The original phrase and its translation stay visible together, so each person can follow the exchange without passing the phone back and forth.
Push-to-talk speech input, typed phrases and optional spoken playback. The microphone listens only while you hold the button, and no recording is saved.
Text is translated by Apple Translation on the device, in seven planned languages: French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. No account, no DuoTalk server.
In development. DuoTalk is not on the App Store yet. Machine translation can be wrong or unavailable for a language pair; it is an aid to understanding, not a substitute for a qualified interpreter.

DuoTalk
Not yet. DuoTalk is in development; this page will show the App Store link when the app is published. Availability may vary by country.
Seven languages are planned: French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. A pair works once the iPhone has downloaded the Apple Translation resources for both languages.
DuoTalk is designed for iPhone Duo, and the same layout runs on a regular iPhone screen. Device compatibility will be stated precisely when the app is released.
The current conversation stays on the iPhone and can be cleared at any time. Speech is processed only while you hold the button, and no recording is saved. The privacy policy gives the details.
The App Store and the app show the current price and available purchases in your local currency before confirmation. Trial availability depends on the offer and your eligibility. A free download does not mean every feature is free.
These are translated website pages. Check the Languages section of the App Store listing for the app itself. Some content may use a different language.
On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the app to review or cancel an active subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
