The problem with passing one phone back and forth
A conversation between two languages becomes awkward when one screen, one microphone and one translation box serve both people. Each person waits, reads over the other's shoulder, and loses track of which phrase was theirs. DuoTalk starts from that frustration: the layout keeps each language visible on its own side of the conversation.
Two languages, one exchange
The screen shows the original phrase and its translation together, and a single button swaps the direction of translation. The goal is orientation: each person should know at a glance which text is theirs, without scrolling through a shared chat. DuoTalk is designed for iPhone Duo, and the same layout runs on a regular iPhone screen.
Speak, type or review
A useful exchange needs more than a microphone button. DuoTalk is built around deliberate actions: choose the two languages, hold to speak or type a phrase, read the translation, and play it aloud only if you want to. The microphone listens only while the button is held, and nothing is recorded to a file.
Translation on the iPhone
Text is translated by Apple Translation, which runs on the device once the language resources are downloaded. Seven languages are planned: French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. There is no DuoTalk account and no DuoTalk server; the current conversation stays on the phone and can be cleared at any time.
What is still being validated
DuoTalk is in development and is not on the App Store. Before release, each language pair has to be tested on a real device with a real microphone, and device compatibility has to be confirmed. This page describes the design; it does not announce a date.

Is DuoTalk available on the App Store?
Not yet. DuoTalk is in development. The App Store link will appear on the DuoTalk page when the app is published.
Does DuoTalk promise perfect translation?
No. Machine translation and speech recognition can be wrong, incomplete or unavailable for a language pair. Important communication should be checked with a qualified person.
What does “designed for iPhone Duo” mean?
The layout is planned so that both people can follow the conversation on that device. It is a design goal, not a statement that a particular device or system feature is supported today.
