What you can do

Tacet: tinnitus sound therapy and sleep timer for iPhone

Find the exact pitch of your tinnitus, then let Tacet build a sound around it — to cover it during the day, and to keep you company at night, when silence makes it loudest. A daily journal, exportable as a PDF for an appointment. Everything is generated on your iPhone: no files, no account, no server.

Find your pitch

Slide through pitches from 250 Hz to 14 kHz until one matches what you hear. Pick the timbre and the ear. It takes about two minutes, and you can then let someone else hear what you hear.

Masking or notch

Masking concentrates the sound around your pitch so it covers it. The notch removes a band around your pitch instead, so the sound surrounds your tinnitus. Researchers have studied both approaches; what they change varies from one person to another.

A night that fades out

A black screen, a clock, and a timer that fades slowly instead of cutting off. The sound keeps playing with the screen locked, and stops on its own when you unplug your headphones.

In preparation. Tacet plays sound and keeps a log. It does not diagnose, treat or cure anything, and it is not a hearing test. Ringing that appeared suddenly, in one ear, especially with hearing loss, needs a doctor within days.
