Set a sound timer without chasing silence
Choose a sound timer, check its gradual stop and distinguish a playback setting from a tinnitus treatment.

Decide what the timer should do
Choose whether you want the sound to stop after a period or continue until you stop it yourself. A timer controls playback; it does not measure sleep or tinnitus. For example, use a short period while you are awake to understand the setting before relying on it at bedtime.
Sleeping with tinnitus: what helps at three in the morningStart with a comfortable sound
Listen at a comfortable level before selecting the timer. Do not increase the volume to force the tinnitus to disappear. NHS guidance mentions soft sound as a possible coping aid, not a guaranteed cure. If the sound is uncomfortable, stop it rather than waiting for the timer to finish.

Tinnitus sounds: speaker or headphones?Check the timer selection
In Tacet’s player, select one of the available timer options. The continuous option does not set an automatic stop. Changing the selection replaces the previous timer in the audio engine. Read the current selection after changing it; do not assume that a choice from an earlier listening session is still the one you need.
Expect a gradual ending
The timer’s ending includes a fade before the audio engine pauses. A quieter sound near the end therefore does not necessarily indicate a fault. Test this once while awake: choose a timer, leave the volume alone and check that playback stops. Do not use repeated volume increases to counter the fade.
Keep a separate decision about sleep
A playback timer does not prove that you fell asleep, slept well or received an effective treatment. If the sound stops and you remain awake, choose deliberately whether to continue listening or put the phone away. Avoid repeatedly testing whether tinnitus is still present; the timer is a practical setting, not a symptom test.
Know when the app is not the next step
Seek medical advice for tinnitus that is persistent, worsening or affecting sleep. Pulse-synchronous tinnitus needs urgent assessment; sudden hearing loss, facial weakness or vertigo with tinnitus requires immediate medical assessment. Follow local emergency guidance. Do not delay care to adjust a timer. This is not an independent product review.

Questions
Does the timer know when I am asleep?
No. It schedules the end of playback; it does not detect sleep.
Should I raise the volume when the sound fades?
No. The fade is part of the timer’s ending. Stop uncomfortable sound and do not chase complete masking.
