Cannot hear the letters in dual n-back? Check iPhone media volume, Bluetooth output and app settings, then gather useful details if the problem continues.

## First identify what is missing

If you cannot hear the letters, stop the training session before interpreting its score. The standard dual task needs both position and sound information. Distinguish missing spoken letters from missing interface feedback sounds: they may use different settings. Note whether the problem affects every session or only one mode. These checks help isolate the problem; they do not prove its cause.

## Check volume while audio is playing

Try familiar audio in another app at a comfortable volume. While it plays, adjust the iPhone media volume with the volume buttons or Control Center. A ringtone volume setting alone does not establish the volume of app playback. If your iPhone is in Silent mode, temporarily turn that mode off as a comparison, then retry the exercise. Do not assume every app responds to Silent mode identically.

### Read the settings before comparing scores

In this captured settings screen: 1 changes the audio mode; 2 changes immediate feedback; 3 selects the N level; 4 selects the number of rounds. Compare results only after checking these conditions. Available levels and labels can vary with the app version and purchase status.

## Where is the sound being sent?

Check the playback destination in Control Center. Audio may be going to connected headphones or a Bluetooth speaker instead of the iPhone speaker. Select the intended output and test again. Apple documents how to switch audio destinations. If the problem occurs only with one accessory, test another output before concluding that the app or phone speaker is faulty.

## Check the exercise and restart carefully

Review any sound or volume controls actually available in your app version. Make sure you selected a mode that includes audio. Leave the exercise, reopen the app and try a short session with known settings. If needed, restart the iPhone and check for updates. Avoid deleting the app as a first step, because locally stored data may be removed.

## If other apps are also silent

A problem affecting several apps may need device-level troubleshooting. Follow Apple’s speaker guidance and check whether an accessory or case obstructs the speaker. Do not insert sharp objects or liquids into an opening. If sound remains absent or distorted across apps and outputs, use Apple Support for further diagnosis rather than repeatedly changing your training settings.

## What to send to support

Record your iPhone model, iOS version, app version, selected exercise and audio output. Describe what you expected to hear and what happened, and list the checks already tried. Use the support link on the app page; include only relevant information, not account passwords. Once sound is restored, restart a comparable session instead of treating the interrupted score as evidence about your memory.
