Understand an interrupted dual n-back run, distinguish session allowance from saved results and prepare a clean next attempt.

## Identify what interrupted the run

Write down whether you switched apps, received a call or closed the game yourself. In Dual N-Back, moving the app into the background during the countdown or an active run ends that run. Returning to the app is not a promise that the same sequence resumes. A finished run and an interrupted run follow different paths.

## Separate the session allowance from a result

The free session allowance and the saved results are different records. If no trial has been scored, the interrupted start is returned to the daily allowance. Once a trial has been scored, the session counts toward that allowance. This does not mean that an interrupted run receives a completed-session score or appears as a completed result.

## Check the result screen before assuming a save

A finished run triggers result saving. An interrupted run instead stops and closes the game. Check the result screen and history when you expected a completed result. If the result screen reports a save failure, use its retry option rather than assuming the visible score is stored. Do not reset app data to diagnose one missing entry.

## Start a new attempt under comparable conditions

For example, if you left an N=2 run to answer a call, describe it in your own notes as interrupted. When you are ready, start a new run at the intended level and mode. Compare its completed result with comparable completed sessions. Do not treat the interruption as a zero score or combine two unfinished sequences into one result.

## Reduce interruptions before the next run

Apple lets you configure a Focus and choose which notifications it allows. If useful, configure one before playing, while keeping the people or alerts you need reachable. Then check the intended sound output and remain in the game. Focus can reduce interruptions; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted session or change the app’s background behaviour.

## Keep an honest note when something still fails

Record the mode, level, what caused the interruption and whether the problem was an absent result or a save error. Those details make a support report more useful than “my score disappeared.” A missing completed result should be investigated as a recording problem, not interpreted as cognitive decline.

## Questions

### Does an interrupted run always return my free session?

No. The start is returned only when no trial has been scored. An interrupted run with a scored trial still counts toward the daily allowance.

### Will a run resume when I return from another app?

Do not expect that. Moving the active run into the background ends it; start a new attempt when ready.
