A practical way to choose settings, keep sessions comparable and learn from errors without turning one score into a promise.

## Start with the rule

Before changing a level or chasing a score, make sure you can describe the two comparisons: position and sound, each measured N turns back. The first useful habit is knowing when not to press.

## Make the conditions repeatable

Use the same device, headphones and approximate time of day when you want to compare sessions. Note interruptions, fatigue and settings changes; a chart cannot separate these causes for you.

## Keep practice short enough to stay deliberate

A short session with honest responses gives clearer feedback than a long session filled with guesses. Stop when attention is clearly slipping, then return later rather than treating fatigue as a new ability level.

## Read errors by type

Separate missed matches, false alarms and correct non-responses when the app reports them. A higher percentage is not automatically better if it came from pressing on uncertainty.

## Change one thing at a time

If you increase N, alter the pace or change the session length, do not change everything in the same comparison. Treat each adjustment as a small personal experiment, not as a proven training dose.

## Questions

### How often should I practise dual n-back?

There is no universally established schedule for everyone. Choose a repeatable routine that leaves you able to follow the rule and record errors without guessing.

### Should I press when I am unsure?

Use the rule you chose consistently. Pressing on hope can raise catches while adding false alarms, which makes the score harder to interpret.

### Does a better score prove higher intelligence?

No. A score shows performance on that task under those conditions; it is not an individual IQ test or a promise of transfer to other activities.
